
IceGators Battle for Playoffs

Lafayette, LA- The IceGators (14-24-2) look to extend the recent woes of the Columbus Cottonmouths (16-19-5) at Blackham Colliseum on Friday, February 19 at 7:05. The Cottonmouths are currently on a three game losing streak and lost their last 5 games on the road. Columbus has only won 3 games on the road all season. Louisiana is 2-1-0 against the team from Columbus, GA this season. The 'Gators are currently seven points behind Columbus for the sixth and final playoff spot.
"This is a crucial stretch with the season winding down," said coach Dave Maclsaac. "We have the ability to propel ourselves into the playoffs with a strong finish. And playing Columbus, will allow us to help ourselves."
The IceGators are coming off of an overtime victory against Pensacola. In the game, goalie AJ Bucchino gave up an early goal but was able to shut down the Ice Flyers attempts there on out. He had 31 saves on 32 attempts and earned himself a second star. The first star went to center Trevor Karasiewicz after scoring the game winning goal 14 seconds into overtime.
Columbus is entering the game on a three game losing streak. In addition to the losing streak, the Cottonmouths lost the last game against the IceGators in Columbus 4-3. During that game the IceGators were able to score three early goals in the first period and Columbus was not able to recover.
With the season winding down the playoffs are in site. Columbus is ahead of the IceGators by seven points with 16 games remaining. These two teams will meet up three more times after the game on Friday and two of those games will be in Blackham Colliseum.
The IceGators will also be at home on Saturday, February 20 at 7:05 to take on the Pensacola Ice Flyers (19-15-8) who currently sit in fifth place in the standings.
