Zultek Sets New Power-Play Record
Published on February 19, 2010 under SPHL (SPHL) News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC (February 19, 2010) - Mississippi's Matt Zultek broke the SPHL record for power-play goals in a season Thursday night, scoring twice in a 6-3 win over Knoxville.
Zultek, a former first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings, scored two of Mississippi's four man-advantage goals to surpass the previous record of 25 set by Columbus' Ryan Rutz in the 2006-2007 season.
The 6-4, 210-pound left wing from Mississauga, Ontario has scored multiple power-play goals in five games this season. Zultek, who scored the 1999 Memorial Cup-winning overtime goal for Ottawa, was also part of the trade that sent Wayne Gretzky from Los Angeles to St. Louis. Los Angeles' pick to select Zultek was acquired from the Blues along with another draft pick, Patrice Tardif, Craig Johnson, and Roman Vopat, in exchange for Gretzky.
