Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Plymouth Whalers held the Niagara IceDogs to a 3-0 shutout at the Compuware Arena in Plymouth Saturday night.
Plymouth scored the first two goals late in the first period - Josh Britton and Phil McRae both converted to give the Whalers a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second period, IceDogs agitator Andrew Shaw got in his second fight in as many games as he went toe-to-toe with Whalers' heavyweight, Jamie Devane, who at 6.05, 217 lbs, out-sizes Shaw by 6 inches and 42 pounds.
Although physical, the second period was scoreless, and Plymouth kept their 2-0 lead going into the third.
The IceDogs were called on a crosschecking penalty early in the third period, allowing Ryan Hayes to notch a power play goal and pick up his third point of the night.
The Whalers played a defensive game for the remained of the period, and the score remained at 3-0 in Plymouth's favour.
The IceDogs will have a few days off before playing host to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors on Thursday, January 21, with a puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
