Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Oshawa, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors picked up a deserving 4-1 victory over the Oshawa Generals tonight at the General Motors Centre; thanks to a dominant second period performance. The win moves the Majors to 30-8-4-1 on the season.

Special Teams can be your best friend or your worst enemy during the course of the season. Tonight for the Majors it was a big reason for the victory. The Majors scored twice on the power play and killed off all seven Generals' power plays. The Generals returned from Sudbury early this morning but were the better team out of the gates and took a 1-0 lead courtesy of J.P. Labardo at 7:04 of the first period. Oshawa capitalized on a 2-on-1 rush to take the lead into the first intermission.

The Majors turned the game around in the second period and the momentum shifted for the "Double Blue." JP Anderson made a series of saves early and then the offense took control. The Majors scored four goals in a span of 12 minutes to go from a 1-0 deficit to a 4-1 lead to end the second period. Rob Flick and Cameron Gaunce scored the first two Majors goals. Casey Cizikas and Devante Smith-Pelly followed suit both on the power play, making it 4-1 for Mississauga. After a scoreless third period that score would also be the final.

JP Anderson made 20 saves for Mississauga and picks up the win. Michael Zador stopped 27 shots and takes the loss for Oshawa. Gaunce and Cizikas both added assists for multi-point nights.

The Majors return home for their second home game of 2010 when the Owen Sound Attack come to town for a 2:00 p.m. game.
