Niagara IceDogs News Release

Saturday night hockey in St. Catharines saw the Niagara IceDogs beat the visiting Kingston Frontenacs by a score of 4-1.

The first period of the game would see both teams fighting hard for their first goal. Ondrej Kopta would strike first at 6:31 to give the IceDogs an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the visiting Frontenacs would tie the game up less than two minutes later and the score would remain tied heading into the first intermission. Shots on goal at the end of the first were 13-10 for Kingston.

The second period saw both teams battling hard but it was Niagara's Brett Ritchie that would give the IceDogs the lead once again as he capitalized on a powerplay situation to make it a 2-1 game. The IceDogs would keep their one goal lead through the rest of the period, moving into the third period with that same 2-1 lead. Shots in the second period were in the IceDog's favour 15-5.

Chris Festarni stole the show in the third period, staying strong and locking things down despite being peppered with 14 shots. Late into the third period, Ritchie kept his composure under pressure and scored his second of the game, giving the IceDogs a two goal lead at 3-1. In the last seconds of the period, defenseman Jesse Graham added a shorthanded empty netter to secure a 4-1 victory.

The Niagara IceDogs will be back in action at the Gatorade Garden City Complex this Thursday, February 28th against the Plymouth Whalers. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
