Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs took a 1-0 series lead Thursday night with a 5-4 win over the Ottawa 67's.

The Dogs got off to an early playoff lead when the Ottawa 67's scored on their own net while the goalie was skating to the bench on a delayed penalty. William Lochead was credited with the goal which gave him his first career OHL playoff goal. The 67's would tie it up later in the period. The Dogs managed to have a strong period overall despite running into some penalty trouble as they killed off 4/5 penalties in the frame. The shots after the first were 11-6 in Ottawa's favour.

The second period saw some great back and forth action as both teams traded goals with the Dogs coming out on top heading into the third. DiFruscia got it started with a power play goal, finishing off a beautiful set up from Josh Ho-Sang. Graham Knott snapped home the Dogs' third goal after Ottawa answered, going five-hole on 67's goalie Lazarev. Pavel Jenys would regain the Dogs' lead after finishing off a passing play with Ho-Sang and Siebenaler, also giving him his first career OHL playoff goal. The Dogs' strong play showed on the shot clock as they outshot Ottawa 20-9 in the frame.

Vince Dunn made his return to the lineup noticeable as he scored just over a minute into the third on a power play to give the Dogs their first two goal lead of the game. Ottawa would score a late goal in the third to get within one, but weren't able to get anything else past the Dogs' defence as the 67's were held to just three shots in the period, while the IceDogs generated 10 shots.

The Dogs' will be back at the Meridian Centre Saturday for game 2 of their best of 7 series against the 67's. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs' ticketing locations. The IceDogs' office will be open Friday with regular office hours, so be sure to come get your tickets for game 2 before there are none left!
