Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs took a 2-0 series lead with a big 3-1 win over the Battalion in Brampton Sunday afternoon.

The first period saw the IceDogs open the scoring for the seventh time in eight playoff games, as Alex Friesen beat Matej Machovsky after a great individual effort to make it 1-0 for Niagara. That would prove to be the only goal of the period as the IceDogs outshot Brampton 9-6.

Both teams would play a strong defensive period in the second and Mark Visentin and Machovsky would both be solid when called upon, as the teams were held scoreless in the frame, sending the IceDogs into the third with a 1-0 lead.

The IceDogs would get an important goal early in the third as Myles Doan snapped home his second of the playoffs after a great feed from Dougie Hamilton to give Niagara a 2-0 lead. Brampton would get on the board just past the midway part of the period to cut the lead to 2-1, but with just over a minute to go, the IceDogs would get a little breathing room as David Pacan would tip home a Dougie Hamilton point shot to make it 3-1. That would prove to be the final as Niagara outshot Brampton 24-23 on the night.

Visentin was solid again in the victory, stopping 22 of 23 shots to earn first star honours, while the IceDogs were lead offensively by Friesen (1 G, 1A) and Hamilton, (2A) who each had to points.

The IceDogs will now return to Niagara on Tuesday night to host Brampton in game three as they look to continue their winning ways. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations!
