December 17, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs closed out the first half of their season tonight against the 2017 MasterCard Memorial Cup hosts, the Windsor Spitfires

The first period got off to a fast paced, physical start, and the tempo was maintained throughout. Windsor eventually capitalized to take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The second period showed much of the same as the first. Windsor capitalized on a partial break to double their lead to 2 in the second half of the period. The tides started to turn when Chris Paquette scored his team leading 12th goal of the season on the powerplay. The 2-1 score would stand heading into the 3rd period.

The Dogs got off to a great start in the third. Akil Thomas scored the equalizer 44 seconds into the period. 8 minutes later, Johnny Corneil scored top shelf from the face-off circle to take the lead. The Spitfires tied the game at 3 with 2 minutes to go in the game.

65 minutes proved to not be enough as we entered a nerve-wracking shootout to decide the game. Pavel Demin would score the shootout winner in the 4th round!

The IceDogs are back at home on Saturday, December 31st (New Years Eve) as they play host to the visiting Kingston Frontenacs for a special 6:00pm puck drop.
