September 22, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
Mantha, a native of Clarkson, Michigan was originally drafted by Sault Ste. Marie in the 5th round of the OHL Priority Selection in 2012. Since joining Niagara in 2014, Mantha has been a solid force on defense, while consistently contributing on offence with 25 points each season. Director of Player Personnel Joey Burke says that "Mantha is a natural leader, who is very well respected, not only in our dressing room but around the league as well. He handles himself like a true pro, on and off the ice. In his two years, Mantha has always been a great mentor to our core youth, and that has never been more true than it has with our young group this season. We are very excited to announce Mantha as captain, and have no doubt he will do a fantastic job leading this team forward."
With the new season starting this week, Mantha is more than ready to take on this new position with the team. "I am extremely honored to be named captain of the IceDogs, it is a very cool feeling, and I am very excited for the new season"
Mantha will be the 9th captain in the franchise's history as he joins an elite group of IceDogs alumni who have served proudly over the first 9 years. Mantha will be supported by Aaron Haydon, and Johnny Corneil who will serve as the team's assistants.
