IceDogs Lose in Tight Battle with Steelheads
December 30, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs travelled to Mississauga tonight to take on the Steelheads. The IceDogs were coming off a 5-3 victory over Barrie the night before, and looked to take that energy into tonight's game, and through the first weekend of the second half.
The first period played with a lot of back and forth hockey. The best play of the first period would go to Ben Jones, when he made a sliding block on Spencer Watson's wraparound attempt to keep the score tied. The first period would conclude with a score of 0-0.
The second period saw a major rise in energy from both teams. The IceDogs would head to the penalty kill early in the period but were successful in shutting the door on Mississauga. Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the second period, and the score would remain knotted up at zero.
The third period carried the same energy from the second period. After two successful penalty kills, the Steelheads got a lucky bounce off two skaters out front, and managed to bang the puck past Dhillon. The Steelheads managed to sneak a back-door goal to make 2-0. Mississauga would add an empty netter to end the game at 3-0.
The IceDogs are back at home on Saturday, December 31st (New Year's Eve) as they play host to the visiting Kingston Frontenac's with a special start time at 6:00 PM for puck drop.
