March 2, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
After last night's character win in North Bay, where they posted 50+ shots for the fourth time this season, the 'Dogs were back in action tonight in Barrie. Tonight's game was the 1st time they've faced this Colts team since November, when Niagara was victorious by a score of 6-2 in Jason Robertson and Jacob Paquette's IceDogs debut.
The 'Dogs got on the board first just over midway through the opening period! Elijah Roberts skated deep into the slot where Ivan Lodnia found him for the one timer. The Colts scored 2 consecutive goals to end the period and carry a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period.
The IceDogs continued to continue to dominate the game, posting 26 shots in the second period, but they didn't beat the goaltender, Edmonds, until the final 18 seconds. Matt Philip redirected a shot under pressure from Jonah De Simone to score his 13th of the season! Jacob Paquette was credited with the secondary assist on Philip's equalizer. The period ended with a 2-2 tie.
The Colts scored early in the third period, but Kyen Sopa re-directed a shot by Elijah Roberts to tie the game up at 3. Barrie scored 2 quick goals in the backhalf of the period to take a 5-3 lead. Ben Jones scored with under 2 minutes remaining to bring the 'Dogs within 1! Jones shovelled in a shot from Akil Thomas. Barrie native Matt Brassard picked up the secondary assist on the goal. Despite continuing to push in the dying minutes and seconds of the period, and severely outshooting the Colts, Niagara couldn't beat a hot goaltender one last time.
The IceDogs return home with 4 points on this roadtrip.
The 'Dogs are back in action at home tomorrow to the Sarnia Sting for a Sunday matinee.
