IceDogs Fall to Colts 3-1

February 17, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The IceDogs continued their 3 in 4 Family Day weekend of games in Barrie Saturday night. In their 3rd trip to Barrie this season, the 'Dogs were looking to narrow the gap between them and their Central Division rival, the Colts. Despite a disappointing score in last nights' game, the 'Dogs had many positives to build upon in tonight's tilt. This game marked Matthew Philip's 100th career regular season OHL game.

Colton Incze made his second start in five games against the Colts, who were with Andrei Svechnikov. Incze flashed the leather early in the first period. The 'Dogs got periods of sustained pressure, and it was captain Johnny Corneil got the boys on the board first. Corneil picked off a Colts' drop pass and slid the puck under Leo Lazarev to score his 17th goal of the season. Akil Thomas picked up the lone assist on Johnny's goal. The Colts tied the game less than a minute later.

The 1-1 tie maintained through much of the second period. Colton Incze continued his stellar play between the pipes, making multiple great saves on some of the league's top scorers. Leo Lazarev stunned the 'Dogs in the offensive zone, making consecutive glove saves on Danial Singer at the end of the period.

The Colts scored midway through the third period to take a 2-1 lead off a goal Colton Incze had no chance of stopping. The Colts added an empty net goal to defeat the IceDogs 3-1.

The 'Dogs are on the road Monday, February 19th, against the Peterborough Petes. The game will be broadcast live on YourTV Niagara, Newstalk 610 CKTB, as well as OHL Live. Follow @OHLIceDogs on Twitter for all live in-game updates.
