The Niagara IceDogs were defeated 3-0 by the Mississauga Majors at the Hershey Centre Tuesday night, giving the Majors a 1-0 series lead in the Rogers OHL Conference Championships.

Mississauga opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the game as Jordan Mayer beat Mark Visentin for his fourth of the playoffs with the help of Visentin's World Junior foe, Maxim Kitsyn, giving the Majors an early 1-0 lead.

The next goal wouldn't come until the 14:17 mark as Devante Smith-Pelly made it 2-0 Majors by taking the puck from behind the net and letting a weak wrist shot go that managed to squeak past Visentin on his short side. Casey Cizikas notched the assist.

The Majors continued to put pressure on Niagara during the dying minutes of the frame, holding on to their 2-0 lead while also leading the shot clock 11-6 going into the first intermission.

After exchanging several minor penalties early in the second, the Majors were able to make it 3-0 at the 7:31 mark as Jamie Wise slipped one past Visentin on his short side on a similar play to Smith-Pelly's first period goal.

The last bit of action to occur in the second period was a fight between Ryan Strome and Dylan DeMelo. The two dropped the gloves in the corner and exchanged several blows before DeMelo landed the last two to take Strome down. A rare fight for Strome shows the character, intensity and leadership the potential first round pick has.

The bout would end things in the second, and Mississauga would skate into the dressing room with a 3-0 lead, while also leading the shot clock 22-16 after 40 minutes.

The IceDogs played their best hockey of the game in the third period creating several scoring chances both even strength and on the power play, but the sturdy Majors defence and flawless goaltending of JP Anderson was too much for the visiting Niagara team, and Mississauga would take a 1-0 series lead with a 3-0 home win.

Game 2 of the Rogers OHL Conference Championships will take place back in Niagara at the Gatorade Garden City Complex this Thursday, Apr. 21 at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location. For more information, please contact the IceDogs office at 905-687-DOG1 (3641).
