St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - With the drop of the puck tonight, the St. John's IceCaps tied the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the second-longest consecutive game sellout streak in American Hockey League history. Tonight's game marks the 54th straight sellout at Mile One Centre for IceCaps home games. Since the team's inception last season, every single home game has seen a capacity crowd of 6,287.
"Tonight marks our 54th sold out hockey game, which really is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the outstanding fans we have in St. John's," IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams said Wednesday. "The IceCaps organization has worked tirelessly to promote the team and establish a strong fan base, including tremendous corporate support. Together, we should all take great pride in selling out each and every game night.
"I have heard from our players that to consistently have the opportunity to perform in front a packed house is an incredible feeling. Even the opposing teams love to come to St. John's, where they can play in front of an enthusiastic, excitement-filled stadium. So I thank the fans for your support as we mark this milestone, and look forward to more to come."
The streak, which began Oct. 14, 2011 and includes every regular season game played at Mile One, ties the Penguins, who ran off 54 straight from Dec. 22, 2000 through Feb. 20, 2002.
The league record of 90 games is also held by Wilkes-Barre, set from March 2002 to October 2004.
The IceCaps hit the road Friday for a five-game road trip before Christmas. The club's next home games are against Manchester Jan. 4 and 5, 2013.
