Syracuse, NY- Brett Connolly's scored twice as the Syracuse Crunch edged the Binghamton Senators 4-3 tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
With tonight's win over the East Division rival Binghamton Senators, the Crunch maintained first place in the East with a 15-6-1-2 overall record and 5-3-1-0 record at the War Memorial. The Crunch held the Senators to a season-low 18 shots on goal. Crunch netminder Dustin Tokarski stopped 15 of 18 shots faced.
The Crunch jumped out to a 1-0 lead with Alex Killorn's sixth goal of the season. Killorn beat Binghamton netminder Robin Lehner off a feed from Mike Angelidis 9:35 into the opening frame. J.T. Wyman also had an assist on the Killorn goal.
The Senators struck back with a five-on-three power-play goal from Mike Hoffman at the 11:53 mark of the first. Hoffman beat Crunch goaltender Dustin Tokarski from the right side, with assists going to Stephane Da Costa and Andre Benoit.
Matt Taormina regained the Crunch lead with just 35 seconds remaining in the first period. Taormina blasted a shot from the point past Lehner for his fourth goal of the year.
Connolly scored his tenth goal of the year by capitalizing on a Binghamton turnover in front of Lehner with 8:33 left in the second period, sending the Crunch up 3-1.
Binghamton cut the Crunch lead to one with Hoffman's second power-play goal of the game at the close of the second period. Helpers on Hoffman's second goal went to Jakob Silfverberg and Benoit.
Connolly scored the eventual game-winner at the 7:16 mark of the final frame. Connolly crashed the net and potted the rebound off a Dmitry Korobov shot to give the Crunch a 4-2 lead.
The Senators closed the gap to 4-3 seven minutes later with a goal from Mark Stone, assisted by Derek Grant and David Dziurzynski.
The Crunch travel to Adirondack to face the Phantoms on Friday, Dec. 14.
