St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - The St. John's IceCaps exacted revenge against the Syracuse Crunch to split a two-game series with a 3-2 shootout win at Mile One Centre on Wednesday night.
Syracuse kicked off the scoring with an early tally from Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond. The Crunch would hold the lead until late in the second period when IceCaps leading scorer Nikita Scherbak would pot his ninth of the season to tie it up. Sven Andrighetto and Markus Eisenschmid picked up the helpers on the tying-tally.
With just 0.1 seconds left in the second, Eisenschmid picked up his second point of the night with a goal on a beautiful set up from Scherbak and Andrighetto to take the lead.
The Crunch fought back with a goal five minutes into the third to tie it up, and eventually send the game to overtime. After a scoreless extra-frame, Daniel Audette and Andrighetto would score in the shootout to lift the IceCaps over the Crunch.
Yann Danis stopped 26 of the 28 shots, and the two he faced in the shootout for the win.
