Providence Bruins News Release
Seekonk, MA - The Providence Bruins participated in a Holiday Toy Shopping Event Wednesday November 30 to help local children and families feel the joy of the holidays. The entire roster traveled to Walmart in Seekonk, MA to buy toys that will be given as gifts to children served by Children's Friend.
Players were divided into five different teams and were provided with shopping wish lists from Child & Family's "Adopt-A-Family" Holiday Giving Program. Each group browsed the Walmart aisles and selected items for the 16 children and families in need. Thousands of dollars' worth of toys were purchased out of pocket by the team to fulfil the wishes of the children, who range from age 17 to under age one.
The event also created awareness for the Providence Bruins Toy Drive Weekend at home games on December 9 at 7:05 and December 11 at 3:05. Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy on the day of either game to the Dunkin' Donuts Center and place them in marked bins in the main lobby.
A non-profit organization founded in 1834, Children's Friend is a leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health, and child development services. Families are strengthened by creating safe and nurturing environments for children during the crucial early years, and by helping parents gain access to the resources, education, and support that they need. In this way, children are given the foundation to help them live healthy and productive lives. Children's Friend provided services to help over 38,000 children and families in 2015.
