March 8, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - The St. John's IceCaps were unable to catch the Syracuse Crunch in a 4-2 loss on Wednesday night at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena.
The Crunch potted a power play tally with under a minute left in the first frame to take the lead, and they would add another marker with a man-advantage just 1:44 into the second.
The IceCaps fought back with a goal from Max Friberg to cut the lead in half. Julien Brouillette and Jacob de la Rose picked up the helpers on the tally. Syracuse responded with another power play tally to stretch the lead in the second.
Brett Lernout fired a shot from the point and Stefan Matteau redirected to find the back of the net to bring the IceCaps back within one, but after pulling netminder Charlie Lindgren late in the third - they were unable to send it to overtime. The Crunch took advantage of the IceCaps' empty net to get a final marker.
Lindgren stopped 23 shots while Syracuse netminder Kristers Gudlevskis turned away 25 of 27 shots.
The IceCaps take on the Rochester Americans on Friday night (8:35pm NST) before heading back to Syracuse to rematch the Crunch on Saturday night (8:30pm NST).
