Cranbrook, B.C. - The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club announced on Thursday it has selected defenceman Valtteri Kakkonen 11th overall in the first round of the 2018 CHL Import Draft.
The six-foot, 168-pound Finland native spent the 2017-18 season with JYP U20 of Jr. A SM-liiga. In 47 regular season games, the 2000-born defenceman potted five goals and added seven assists for 12 points.
During the 2016-17 campaign, Kakkonen suited up for the Finland U17 team.
"We look forward to welcoming Valtteri to our organization and the community," said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager.
