Prince George Cougars News Release

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club selected Left Wing Matej Toman with the fifth overall selection in the 2018 CHL Import Draft Thursday.

"We're really happy with our pick this morning, as we targeted him with the fifth pick," said General Manager Mark Lamb. "He's a really skilled player with a lot of upside and he fits into the young nucleus we have in Prince George."

Toman, 17, played for his hometown team HC Ceske Budjovice last season, playing at the Under-18, Under-20 level and with the men's team in the Czech Third Division. At the Under-18 level, Toman had 15 points (3-12-15) in 11 regular season games and added another 13 points (6-7-13) in seven playoff games, helping lead HC Ceske Budjovice to an Under-18 championship. Toman added 14 points (8-6-14) in 25 games with the Under-20 team, and with the men's team, the winger had three points (2-1-3) in 15 games.

Internationally, Toman suited up for the Czech Republic at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, leading the Czech team in scoring with three goals in six games.

The Cougars didn't use their second pick in the CHL Import Draft, as forward Vladislav Mikhalchuk will be returning for the 2018-19 season.
