The Calgary Hitmen held the rights to the eighth overall selection, but with defencemen Vladislav Yeryomenko (Belarus, 1999) and Egor Zamula (Russia, 2000) expected to return, the Hitmen opted to pass on both their selections in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.
The Kootenay ICE were the third WHL Club to make a selection, using the 11th overall pick to claim Finnish defenceman Valtteri Kakkonen (2000). The 5-foot-10, 148-pound product of Jyvaskyla spent the 2017-18 season with JYP U20 of SM-liiga Junior A, registering 12 points (5G-7A) and a plus-3 rating in 47 games.
