Ice Miners Name Captains for 2014-15

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - Head coach Michael Gershon announced today that Lucas Little (C), Alex Archibald (A), and Vito Aluia (A) will serve as captains during the 2014-15 season. "We've told them that there's not just one captain. They're all equal to us - they're all going to have the same say. We expect them to be a core group," said Gershon. "They've been around the block. They've been here for a couple of years now and they know what we expect. They're all leaders by example. They've taken the responsibility that we gave them at the end of last year to come back as leaders and show that they want to be the leaders on this team."
Aluia, a 5'7 forward from Warren, MI is entering his third season in the Ice Miners organization. He was fourth on the team in scoring last season with 33 points. (13 goals, 20 assists) Archibald, a 6'0 defenseman from Port Huron, MI, was one of only two players on the team to play in 59 of the 60 games in 2013-14. He was second on the team in defenseman scoring with 4 goals and 24 assists. Little, a 5'11 defenseman from Traverse City, Michigan has been on the team for the last two seasons and is the oldest Ice Miner on the squad.
"They're always some of the first guys on the ice, last guys off the ice, leading the charge and doing the extra things in training camp," Gershon said. "I think that speaks volumes about their work ethic. We work hard and we want the team to embody the captains and I think by naming that core group we've got a good group of guys that can hopefully lead our team to a championship."
The Ice Miners open their regular season this Saturday, September 13th against the rival Johnstown Tomahawks at 7:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling Ruth Ann Shal at 724-562-2331.
