Soo Eagles Set for Opening Weekend

September 12, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Soo Eagles News Release

The Soo Eagles will open the North American Hockey League regular season this weekend, when they play host to the Janesville Jets on Friday, September 12th at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, September 13th, at 7:00 p.m. It will be Renovation Celebration at Pullar Stadium, as the Soo Eagles and local residents will celebrate the 75 year old stadium's face lift.

These two North Division foes will face each other 10 more times during the regular season, including October 17-18th and Jan 30-31st.

There will be plenty of potential Division 1 talent, showcased on the ice, as a total of eight players have college commitments. The Eagles carry five of them, including Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan natives, Chase Gamelin and Will Gauthier, both signing letters of intent to play at Lake Superior State University. The Eagles' Nicolas Belger has committed to Sacred Heart University, Trevor Cope to Michigan Tech University, and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan native, Denver Pierce, has signed a letter of intent to play at Northern Michigan University.

Janesville's Drew Callin has committed to play at Bentley University, while Mitchell Fossier has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Maine, and Cullen Munson has committed to West Point, to play for Army.

Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Mayor, Anthony Bosbous, will be dropping the puck on Friday night, while City Manager, Oliver Turner, will get the same honor on Saturday.

Last season the Jets and Eagles battled for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division, where Janesville eventually secured their bid to the NAHL post-season.
