Ice Flyers Lose at Home, End Four Game Win Streak

The Pensacola Ice Flyers' lose to the Columbus Cottonmouths ending a four game win streak that had placed the Ice Flyers in first place in the SPHL. With the Ice Flyers' loss and Huntsville's victory there is now a three way tie atop the standings.

The Ice Flyers came out of the gate quick with two goals from Chris Wilson and Tanner Shultz before the ten minute mark in the first period. Columbus would strike back with a goal in the tenth minute by Moore from Kinnunen. No more scoring would occur and the Ice Flyers would head into the second period up 2-1.

Columbus would score four more unanswered goals in the match. Starting with Bowles connecting with Cole and Malek, Jesse Cole would continue four point, hat trick night, with two more goals in the second period putting Columbus up 4-2 heading into the locker room. Chris Wilson would fight back for the Ice Flyers scoring with just over twelve minutes to play in the third. That would be Pensacola's last goal of the night. Jesse Cole would score an empty netter to put the nail in the coffin with Columbus' 6-3 victory over the Ice Flyers.

The night was not without controversy as the Ice Flyers had one goal waved off in the second period. The match was on the rough side as there were 50 penalty minutes assessed on 18 penalties. Nonetheless, Loewen notches the win for Columbus saving 31 of 34 shots. Tommy Lee finished with 27 saves on 32 shots.

Pensacola heads to Mississippi for a crucial battle to see who will gain control of first place tomorrow night and then will return to The Hangar on December 17th to face the Surge once again. Snowball Derby Champion and NASCAR Phenom Johanna Long will be at The Hangar meeting and greeting fans during the game.
