Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks had their four-game winning streak snapped Friday night as they were clipped 3-2 by the Huntsville Havoc at the James Brown Arena.
The hotly contested affair featured two full-fledged fights and a plenty of bitterness throughout the game. In the end the deciding factor was a solid performance by Havoc goaltender Mark Sibbald as he stopped 25 saves for the victory.
The loss drops the RiverHawks' to 9-8 on the season, while the Havoc improved to 11-6
The Havoc started the scoring early in the first period when Mike MacDonald deflected a hard shot from defenseman Shaun Arvai while on the power play.
The RiverHawks managed to tie the game later in the first period when forward Jason Weeks made a one-handed pass into the slot where Neil Graham was waiting. Graham fired a one-timer that beat Sibbald between his arm and body.
The Havoc took the lead when Brett Needham found a loose puck in front of RiverHawks' goaltender Jon Olthuis and snapped it into the net.
Havoc leading scorer Stephen Margeson made it a two-goal game when he took a pass from Arvai and blasted a one-timer underneath the cross-bar and into the net.
The RiverHawks narrowed the lead to one goal when defenseman Ed Snetsinger found himself at the goal line and snapped a bad-angle shot that squeezed in between Sibbald and the post.
The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Saturday, December 11th. The puck drops at 7:30pm. Fans who donate a new, unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots at the James Brown Arena box office will receive $2.00 off a ticket.
