Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. -  The Pensacola Ice Flyers could not hold onto an early third period surge and ultimately fell to the Macon Mayhem by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday night inside the Pensacola Bay Center.

The Mayhem opened the scoring 10:19 into the first period when Ryan Michel fired a long shot from the blue line that beat a screened Matt Zenzola. The score remained 1-0 until the third period.

The Ice Flyers tied the game at one when Patrick Megannety redirected a long shot from the blue line by Aaron Clarke 3:14 into the third. Massimo Lamacchia had the other assist on the goal. Less than two minutes later, Pensacola's Ken Neil put the puck past Macon goalie Jordan Ruby with 14:59 remaining in the third period. Clarke and Megannety had the assists. Macon tied the game at two when Stephen Pierog fired shot between the goal post and Zenzola's right arm. The goal was scored with 5:55 remaining in regulation and was unassisted. Macon scored the game winning goal when an uncovered Jake Trask fired a quick shot that Zenzola had not chance on.

Zenzola stopped 30 of Macon's 33 shots on goal.

The Ice Flyers will now head to Macon, Ga., for Game Two of their SPHL Semifinal series against the Macon Mayhem. Game Two will be played on Friday, April 21, with a 6:35 p.m. CT puck drop inside the Macon Coliseum. Should Game Three be necessary, it will be played in Macon on Saturday, April 22.
