Ice Dogs Agree to Terms with Lyons

LONG BEACH, Calif. – April 30, 2003 – Long Beach Ice Dogs Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that right wing Craig Lyons has agreed to terms of a one-year deal with the club. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This past season, the 30-year old scored seven goals and 12 points in nine games for the Ice Dogs after starting the season with the Guildford Flames of the British National League (BNL). Lyons, signed by the Ice Dogs on Jan. 21, missed 26 games with the Ice Dogs after suffering a season-ending knee injury on Feb. 9 in Bakersfield.

"Having Lyons agree to come on board next season is a huge strength in rebuilding our foundation," said Kaminski. "We look forward to having Craig reignite the Ice Dogs' winning tradition."

Lyons, one of the most prolific scorers in the West Coast Hockey League, has amassed 599 career points while playing the last seven (1996-2003) of eight WCHL seasons. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Calgary, Alberta native is one point shy from becoming the second WCHL player (behind Anchorage's Dean Larson) to reach the 600-point milestone. In addition, Lyons currently ranks second in WCHL career goals (236) and assists (363), and third in games played (364).

Prior to joining the Ice Dogs, Lyons played the last four seasons with the Colorado Gold Kings and another two (1996-98) with the Fresno Falcons. Second on the Gold Kings' all-time scoring list, Lyons collected 384 points (145-239=384) in only 244 games played. Highlighting his tenure with Colorado, Lyons was named the WCHL's Most Valuable Player for the 2000-01 season after leading the league in assists (76) and points (117).
