Former Grrrowl Nets only goal for AHL affiliate

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â The Chicago Wolves fell 3-1 to the Grand Rapids Griffins in Game 2 of the American Hockey League Western Conference semifinal series at Van Andel Arena on Tuesday night. The Wolves are down two games to none in the best-of-7 series, which moves to Allstate Arena for Games 3 and 4, on Thursday (5/1) and Friday (5/2) nights.
"We need to have the same effort (at home) we had tonight," Wolves coach John Anderson said. "They (the Griffins) did their job here. We would have liked a split, but we'll go home and do our job there."
After a scoreless first period, the Griffins took a 1-0 lead at the 2:12 mark of the middle period. Derek King slipped a rebound through the legs of Wolves netminder Norm Maracle.
The Wolves drew even at 1 at 11:52 of the second period. SIMON GAMACHE gobbled up a rebound amid traffic in the crease and lifted a shot over sprawled out Griffins goalie Marc Lamothe.
Grand Rapids scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal 2:28 into the third period. Darryl Bootland stripped Wolves defenseman Libor Ustrnul of the puck as the latter tried to skate it out of the Wolves zone. Bootland took three strides before whistling a shot over Maracle's right shoulder.
Stacy Roest iced the game for the Griffins with an empty-net goal with 29 seconds left. Maracle posted 26 saves while Lamothe had 28 stops.
