Ice Bears Extinguish the FireAntz

Knoxville, TN - (January 29, 2014) After a Knoxville three-goal run and six power play opportunities missed for Fayetteville, the Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the FireAntz by a score of 5-2 during $1000 Thursday Night.

The first frame saw Matt Robertson of Fayetteville find the net first at the 3:55 mark. The remaining portion of the first period was scoreless and only featured one penalty leaving the Ice Bears down by a goal after 20 minutes of play.

After two missed power play opportunities by the FireAntz, the Ice Bears built momentum when Jason Price was tripped on a breakaway. Shortly after Jack Paul, in his first game playing as an Ice Bear, sent the puck flying into the net tying the game 1-1.

Following a slashing call on Fayetteville's Corey Toy, the Ice Bears took the lead when Francis Drolet scored his 16th goal of the season with an assist by Berkley Scott. A little over two minutes later, Knoxville scored again off a slap-shot by Peter Neal from the top of the circles with assists from Drolet and Eric Satim.

In the final 30 seconds of play in the second period, the FireAntz cut into the Ice Bears lead to 3-2 when Austin Daae scored while driving the net.

Less than a minute into the third frame, the Ice Bears came out firing when Jarrett Rush scored his first goal as an Ice Bear with assists from Neal and Satim. The Ice Bears momentum continued when Ryan Salvis sent the world class one-timer to the back of the net - assists from Paul and winning goaltender Bryan Hince to seal the win for the Ice Bears 5-2.
