Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - After the Cape Fear loss to Huntsville on Wednesday night, the Ice Bears were sitting comfortable and firmly in second place in the South East Hockey League standings. It was a good thing the Ice Bears had done well enough in the latter part of the season to clinch second place since they played three players short the entire weekend. Forward Tom McMonagle was still out with a separated shoulder and newcomer Mike Zeibaq didn't play. Kevin Swider, who has also signed with the Ice Bears, wasn't in town to play this weekend either.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Thursday, March 18 - Winston-Salem 1 at Knoxville 3

Even though according to Coach Bermingham it wasn't the prettiest win the Ice Bears have ever had, it was still a win. The Ice Bears took on 4th place Winston-Salem on Thursday night and managed to beat them 3-1. Chris Bodnar was the first to score and Ice Bears' leading scorer K.J. Voorhees added the next two goals to bring his goals on the season to 51. Assists were picked up by Craig Desjarlais (2), Todd MacIsaac (2) and Brad Bourhis (1).

Friday, March 19 - Huntsville 8 at Knoxville 6

The Channel Cats proved to be too much for the Ice Bears to handle yet again. However, the Bears hung in there for the majority of the game considering they were playing three short for the second night in a row. K.J. Voorhees tallied two goals while Alex Alepin, Ali MacEachern, Todd MacIsaac and Craig Desjarlais all added one. Assists were credited to Alepin (3), Jason Greenway (3), MacIsaac (2), Desjarlais (2), Brad McDonald (1) and goalie Adam Barbour (1).

CHAMPION OF THE WEEK

(Each week the Knoxville Ice Bears will recognize a Champion of the Week. This group or individual will be recognized for their passionate support of the Ice Bears.)

Lauren Carey, a native of Knoxville, TN and an active member of the Ice Bears Booster Club, first got involved in hockey 12 years ago when her father was an off-ice official and would bring her to games. She has since followed in her father's footsteps serving as an off-ice official for the Cherokees, Speed and Ice Bears. Lauren wants hockey to succeed in Knoxville and that has been her primary reason for going above and beyond. The Ice Bears would like to show Lauren their appreciation for her constant dedication and support.
