Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears have defeated Pensacola Flyers by a score of 3-1 in front of a howling crowd of 3,471 and are now tied for the lead in the SPHL standings.

Two minutes in the first period, Berkley Scott found the net for the 14th time this season with assists by Ryan Salvis and Jake Johnson. Shortly after the goal, Ice Bears veteran forward David Segal tussled with Brandon Blair and were both sent to the box.

During the power play from a tripping call for the Flyers, the Ice Bears increased the lead to two goals when Christian Weidauer scored his first professional goal with assists by Peter Neal and Francis Drolet.

With two power plays opportunities missed for Knoxville and one for Pensacola, the second period was a defensive dog match with neither team surrendering a goal.

The Knoxville Ice Bears entered the final period with a 2-0 lead accumulated in the first period. The game remained scoreless for over 38 regulated minutes until the Flyers finally scored during a power play from an unsportsmanlike conduct call of Segal and their goaltender pulled cut the lead in half to 2-1.

In the last three seconds of the game, Brett Valliquette sent a short-handed shot to an empty net from across the ice sealing the game with a lead 3-1.

Ice Bears' goalie Braely Torris turned aside 38 out of 39 shots leading the Ice Bears into a tie in SPHL standings to be tied for first with Pensacola.

The Ice Bears return to action against the Flyers on Saturday, Jan 17th for Baby Races and Girl Scott Night. To order tickets call 865-656-4444 or visit www.knoxvilleicebears.com.
