Ice Bear Named SEHL Goalie of the Week

KNOXVILLE, TN - Ice Bears goalie Blaine Russell has been named Goaltender of the Week by the South East Hockey League. Over the weekend, Russell stopped 65 of 68 shots in the first two games to give the Ice Bears the wins over the Winston-Salem T-Birds. Russell started the game in Winston-Salem on Sunday, but was replaced by rookie Kevin Block in the second period due to illness. On the season, Russell has posted a 3.35 goals against average and a 90.5% save percentage. Russell has become the number one goalie for the Bears since teammate Jason Tapp was called up to the Columbus Cottonmouths of the East Coast Hockey League.
The SEHL gave another Ice Bear praise for his performance this past weekend. Ice Bears forward Tom McMonagle has stepped up his game in recent weeks. Over the weekend, McMonagle tallied five goals and three assists to propel Knoxville to victories on Friday and Saturday. Eight of McMonagle's 17 goals have come in January, and since the beginning of December he has tallied 14.
