Ice Bats Even Preseason Record
October 13, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Austin Ice Bats News Release
Ice Bats forward Henry Kuster scored a hat trick and an assist to lead Austin to a 7-2 pasting of Laredo in the second preseason game for both teams, Friday night at Chaparral Ice Arena. The victory evened the Ice Bats' preseason record at 1-1.
The Bats, who lost to the Bucks Thursday night at College Station, were buoyed by the addition of five players into the lineup, after those players received immigration clearance to enter the country. With a full defensive lineup intact, the Bats jumped on the Bucks early for three first period goals.
Aaron Davis scored a shorthanded breakaway goal five minutes into the contest. Kuster added the first of his goals a couple minutes later, and forward Julian Smith made it 3-0 with about two minutes left in the period.
Laredo got on the board early in the second, but the Ice Bats ripped off three unanswered scores to conclude the period, power play goals from Kuster and Mike Tucciarone, and a John McNabb even strength goal.
Kuster wrapped up the hat trick with a shorthanded goal midway through the third. Emphasis on specialty teams paid off for the Bats, who scored twice on seven power play chances and twice shorthanded while shutting out the Bucks' eight power play opportunities. Austin goalie Kevin Couture also shone, stopping 43 of 45 Laredo shots.
The Ice Bats are back in action Saturday night at Chaparral Ice Arena against Corpus Christi. Tickets for the game are half price in all seating levels.
The Ice Bats have also agreed to add a fourth exhibition game Sunday in Corpus Christi. The Ice Bats take the place of Rio Grande Valley as the Rayz' opponent, due to ongoing roster shortages for the Killer Bees.
