
Bucks Fall 7-2 To Bats

AUSTIN, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 7-2 to the Austin Ice Bats at the Chaparral Ice Center in CHL pre season action on Friday night. Forwards Leo Thomas and Ladislav Kouba scored for the Bucks who finished the pre season at 1-1. The Bucks will play an inter-squad game at the LEC on Sunday at 4 p.m. Admission to the inter-squad game is two non perishable items of food that will be collected and donated to the South Texas Food Bank. The Bucks are offering a family four pack of season tickets for the 2006-07 CHL regular season, which works out to just over $7 a seat per game and is a 48 % savings off walkup prices. The Ice Bats jumped to a quick 3-0 lead after one period. Austin forward Aaron Davis got loose on a shorthanded breakaway and scored at 4:47. Forward Henry Kuster scored on a shot from the slot at 7:32 and late in the period forward Julian Smith swatted home a rebound of a Kuster shot at 18:18.
The Bucks appeared to get back in the game early in the second period as Kouba found forward Leo Thomas backdoor for a goal just 1:28 into the frame. Austin once again took control though as Kuster scored his second of the night on a power play with a wrist shot high glove side at 6:06. Then forward Mike Tucciarone stuffed in a rebound at 13:39 to make it 5-1. Forward John McNabb scored late in the period on a nice feed from Davis at 16:06.
In the third period Kuster completed the hat trick as he scored on a two-on-one shorthanded rush at 8:49. Late in the third the Bucks lit the lamp as forward Jeff MacGregor found Kouba in the slot for a quick shot at 14:30 to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE Austin 7, Laredo 2.
Chris Obradovich allowed four goals in 28:55 of work and took the loss for Laredo. Jay Ewasiuk allowed three goals in 31:05 of work. Kevin Couture allowed just two goals for Austin in 60 minutes to get the win. The Bucks were 0-9 on the power play while Austin was 2-7.
Laredo will have an inter-squad game on Sunday, October 15th, at the LEC. Admission to the inter-squad game is two non perishable items of food that will be collected and donated to the South Texas Food Bank. The 2006-07 CHL regular season begins on October 21st at Corpus Christi. Laredo will have their home opener against Rio Grande Valley on October 28th at the LEC.
