
Ibarra Placed on the Disabled List

Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Walter Ibarra has been placed on the Disabled List. INF Carlos Mendoza has been activated from the Disabled List.
Ibarra was taken out of Sunday's game against Reading after being hit by a line drive from INF Kevin Russo, while between second and third base, during the first inning. He had a .268 BA in 18 games for Trenton, with one home run and five RBI. He has hit in 13 of his 18 games for Trenton. He also has split time this season between Charleston (Low-A) and Staten Island. Ibarra started the season with the River Dogs and had a .198 BA in 27 G with one home run and 13 RBI. In 12 games for Staten Island, he has hit .224 with two home runs and six RBI. Last season, he split the season between Tampa (High-A) and the Gulf Coast League Yankees. He hit .179 in 10 games for Tampa. He had a .205 BA in 16 G for the Gulf Coast League Yankees with four RBI. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on 8/23/05.
Mendoza had been on the Disabled List since July 14th (retroactive to 7/12). He has a .279 BA with 12 RBI in 28 G for the Thunder this season. He hit .210 with 13 doubles and 17 RBI in 84 G with Trenton in 2007. He had his contract purchased by the Yankees 8/12/06, and played 31 G that season for Tampa. He was re-signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 11/2/06. He has previous Eastern League experience with Norwich in 2003. He made his professional debut in the Giants' Organization in 1997.
Trenton begins a series tonight against the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first game of the three-game series in Bowie, MD is set to start at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jason Jones (13-5, 2.79) will start for Trenton against Bowie RHP Chris Tillman (9-4, 3.32). Trenton returns home to Waterfront Park on Friday to start a four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
