Chesapeake Baysox News Release

(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox will welcome two Orioles pitchers working to make their way back to the Majors as they host the Trenton Thunder for a three-game series beginning Tuesday night. Righties Chris Ray and Greg Aquino will each throw for the Baysox Tuesday while rehabbing injuries.

Aquino began the season in the Orioles bullpen before being sent down to AAA Norfolk after struggling in April. Aquino worked his way back to Baltimore for three appearances in July before being placed on the 15-day disabled list July 13 with a strained left hamstring.

Aquino has appeared in nine games for the Orioles this year with no record and a 12.54 ERA in 9.1 innings of work. He allowed two runs on three hits in one inning in his last appearance for the Orioles, July 12 in Boston.

The reliever is on his way back to the Majors, having worked a game each in Frederick, Aberdeen, and Delmarva over the past week. He allowed just one hit through 3.0 innings with three strikeouts in that span.

Chris Ray is on his way back from Tommy John surgery in August of 2007 and will likely not pitch for the Orioles this year. The young closer has been pitching competitively for two weeks with stints in Frederick, Aberdeen and Delmarva, along with the Gulf Coast League Orioles, all since August 9. Ray has been solid through his rehab appearances, struggling through one bad outing August 20 for Frederick in which he allowed two runs on three hits in an inning.

Ray is expected to throw one inning Tuesday and another on Thursday before the Baysox finish their regular season on the road for four games in Harrisburg beginning Friday.

The Bowie Baysox are out to Beat The Streaks in their 16th season as the "AA" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Baysox have not reached the postseason since 1997 and have never reached the Eastern League Championship. Playoff tickets are available beginning August 12th; tickets for all remaining regular season games are available on www.baysox.com or by calling the box office at (301) 464-4865.
