
Ian Gac Wins Trautman Award

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (NOVEMBER 3, 2011) - Today, the Dash's Ian Gac was named the 2011 Topps Player of the Year for the Carolina League in the annual George M. Trautman Awards. Players in each of the 16 domestic Minor Leagues were named award winners by the Topps Company of New York, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball.
The honor is the latest in a season full of awards for the Dash slugger. Gac was the Carolina League MVP this past season, hitting .279 with 33 home runs and 96 RBI. He led the league in homers, RBI, runs scored (91), slugging percentage (.535), total bases (276), homer rate (1/15.64 AB), and games played (140). Gac was among the league leaders in batting average (ninth), at bats (second, 516), hits (second, 144), and extra-base hits (second, 65).
The 26-year-old Seattle native was a mid-season and postseason Carolina League All-Star and finished second in the home run derby at the California League - Carolina League All-Star Smash in Modesto, CA. Two weeks ago, Gac won the MiLBY Award for "Best Class-A Advanced Hitter" as voted on by the fans, receiving a whopping 57 percent of the votes.
The 2011 season was a career year for the nine-year professional, as Gac set new personal bests in home runs, hits, slugging percentage, OPS (.893), total bases, walks (58), runs scored, games played, and at bats. He was originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 26th round of the 2003 draft before signing with the Chicago White Sox as a free agent prior to the 2009 season. In 867 professional games, Gac has hit .251 with 160 home runs, and 552 RBI.
