6TH OF JULY, LAKEWOOD (SANDY): The Renegades continue their Independence Week series with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws this morning at ShoreTown Ballpark. Today's game comes on the heels of a rare mid-series off day on Tuesday, and an equally rare Monday game. This is the third of five series played between Jersey Shore and Hudson Valley this season, with the first two being fairly evenly matched.

WAIT, WE PLAYED ON A MONDAY?: Hudson Valley took down the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 8-0 in a special Independence Day game on Monday. Blane Abeyta was terrific in the start, setting the tone with 6.0 shutout ininngs. Carlos Narvaez went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a walk. The win was the sixth shutout victory of the season for Hudson Valley.

MAMMA SAID SHUT YOU OUT: The Renegades threw their sixth shutout of the season on Monday, July 4 at the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. It was their first shutout since blanking Jersey Shore 1-0 on June 11 at Dutchess Stadium. Hudson Valley is tied for second in the South Atlantic League with three other teams in shutouts, with Hickory (TEX) pacing the league with eight.

A NEW ERA: Strength in pitching is a theme across the New York Yankees minor league system and the Renegades are no exception. The staff sports a 3.53 ERA on the season, the second-best in the South Atlantic League (Wilmington, 3.38). It also ranks as the fourth-best staff ERA in High-A, and the ninth-best in the minor leagues. All four Yankees affiliated teams rank in the top 25 in the minors in ERA -- Somerset 3.41, 6th; Tampa 3.64, 11th; Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3.86, 21st.

PEREIRA YARD WORK: Everson Pereira continues his assault on the Renegades record book, and enters play Wednesday just one home run shy of the all-time franchise record. Pereira has been on a roll in the last two-and-a-half weeks, clubbing five long balls, including a pair of two-homer games. The Yankees No. 3 prospect (Baseball America) has five career multi-homer games, including four with Hudson Valley.

Pereira Career Multi-HR Games:

6/17/22 at Greensboro Grasshoppers

6/14/22 at Greensboro Grasshoppers

9/5/21 at Greensboro Grasshoppers -- 3 HR

8/12/21 vs. Jersey Shore BlueClaws

7/10/21 at Dunedin Blue Jays

HISTORY MADE IN JERSEY: Reliever Nelson Alvarez tossed a scoreless seventh inning on Monday, and in doing so made his 49th career appearance with the Renegades, setting a new franchise record for most pitching appearances. The previous record of 49 had stood since 1998.

SPEED DEMON: Cooper Bowman stole his 29th base of the season as part of a double steal in the sixth inning on Friday night. That is the most steals in a single season by a Renegades player since Jake Fraley set the franchise record with 33 in 2016. Bowman has been successful in 13 of his last 14 stolen base attempts, and is 42-for-47 (.894) on steals in his career.

HISTORIC THIEVES: The Renegades have stolen 142 bases on the season, already the second-highest total in team history. Hudson Valley's all-time record is well within reach --149 in 2021. At their current rate, the Renegades are on pace to steal an incredible 249 bases this season. Infielder James Nelson has 31 career SB with HV, just 2 shy of Jake Fraley's team record, while Cooper Bowman is closing in as well with 29.

HARDY PARTY: After a slow start to the season, infielder Tyler Hardman has been swinging a hot bat, picking up hits in 24 of his last 29 games since May 26. He delivered his team-leading 11th home run of the season Sunday night, continuing a hot stretch that has lifted his season batting line from .173/.279/.298 to .250/.326/.453, a 202-point jump in his OPS. The stretch was punctuated by his first career multi-HR game on 6/15 at Greensboro.

DOUBLE DIGIT DINGERS: Tyler Hardman's fourth-inning home run on Saturday night against Brooklyn was his 10th of the season, making him the first Renegade to reach double figures this season. In 2021, the Renegades had five players reach double digits in home runs, led by Josh Breaux's 17. Before last year, the last Renegade to hit 10-or-more home runs was Hunter Lockwood in 2014 (13). In Hudson Valley's entire Short Season Era (1994-2019), only six players reached double figures in home runs in a season. It had only been done three times since the start of the 2000 season.

MOVIN' ON UP: The Yankees announced on Tuesday that Austin Wells was being promoted to Double-A Somerset directly from Tampa, where he had been playing after a stint on the Injured List. Wells hit .323/.429/.576 for Hudson Valley this year, and was leading the team with six home runs when he suffered a lower body on May 17 at Brooklyn. Across parts of two seasons with the Renegades, Wells batted .294/.398/.514 with 13 home runs and had 14 steals.
