Huskies' Bats Wake up Late to Beat the Loggers in Extras

The Duluth Huskies used late inning scoring to defeat the La Crosse Loggers 9-8 in 11th inning on Wednesday night. With the win, The Huskies improve to 16-6 on the season, while the La Crosse Loggers drop to 10-11.

The first three innings went scoreless until the Loggers put up four runs in the top of the fourth, three coming off a double from Kyson Donahue (Arizona).

The Huskies added one run in the bottom of the sixth off the single by Chris Gilbody (Georgetown College), scoring Nicholas Sogard (Loyola Marymount). The Huskies also added a run in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Duluth tied the game in the bottom of the 8th on an RBI single from Justin Mitchell (Oklahoma) and a wild pitch from Loggers pitcher Cam Pferrer (Missouri).

The Loggers put up four runs in the top of the 11th inning off of Huskies pitcher Logan VanWey (Missouri Southern), two RBIs coming from their left fielder Donta Williams (Arizona).

The Huskies loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th inning with a single by Augie Isaacson (Friends University) and a pair of walks from Sogard and Kyle Jacobsen (South Carolina), chasing Jon Meyerring Miami Ohio) from the inning without recording an out. Stephen Knapp (Bellevue) came in for relief for the Loggers. Julian Escobedo (San Diego State) hit a bases clearing triple to tie the game. Hunter Bigge (Harvard) hit the game winning sacrifice fly, scoring Escobedo from third. This was the Huskies third walk-off win this season.

The Huskies will be in action tomorrow as they take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
