ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats' National Hockey League affiliate, the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today they have signed center Jakub Petruzalek (JA-kuhb peh-troo-ZAL-ehk) to a two-year contract.
Petruzalek, 22, completed his first season of North American professional hockey in 2006-07. In 54 games with the River Rats, the 5-foot-10, 176-pound Litvinov, Czech Republic native had 10 goals and 18 assists with 16 penalty minutes. Prior to joining Albany, Petruzalek recorded two assists in six games with Hartford (AHL) and one goal and nine assists in seven games with Charlotte (ECHL). The Hurricanes acquired Petruzalek from the New York Rangers in exchange for left wing Brad Isbister November 21, 2006. The Rangers originally drafted Petruzalek in the ninth round, 266th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
"Jakub is a highly-skilled offensive player," Hurricanes Vice President and Assistant General Manager Jason Karmanos said. "He elevated his game in the playoffs for Albany and we look forward to his continued development in the future."
