
Huppert selected to lead 2006 BlueClaws

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, announce that Dave Huppert will manage the 2006 club. Also joining the staff will be pitching coach Steve Schrenk and hitting coach Ken Dominguez.
Huppert, 48, made his big league coaching debut last season as the Washington Nationals third base coach following 18 seasons as a Minor League skipper at every level.
"We're very happy with the amount of experience the staff will have for the younger players going to Lakewood this year," Steve Noworyta, Director of Minor League Operations said. "The BlueClaws provide an exciting environment and maintain a wonderful facility that the players and staff are sure to enjoy."
Huppert is perhaps best known in the baseball circle for catching all 33 innings of the longest game played in professional baseball history for the Rochester Red Wings in 1981. The game with Pawtucket lasted a total of 8 hours 25 minutes.
Steve Schrenk, 37, will begin his third season as a pitching coach in the Phillies system and return for a second tour in Lakewood. Schrenk pitched professionally for 16 years (1987-2002) with his only major league time coming with the Phillies in 1999 and 2000.
Ken Dominguez, 51, will serve as the Lakewood hitting coach will after spending the 2005 season in Clearwater (High-A). Dominguez has coached or managed at the amateur or minor league level every year since 1977.
"Both on and off the field this is going to be an extremely entertaining season," BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said. "We anticipate a high level of competition from this year's squad and fans can expect just as much fun and excitement with the promotions, giveaways and entertainers as we've had in years past. Our sixth year will be anchored by several events such as the game in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park on May 15."
The BlueClaws will arrive in Clearwater, Florida on March 2 with minor league pitchers and catchers and position players reporting March 5 to the Carpenter Complex. Full Squad workouts will being March 8 and first of 18 spring games will begin March 13.
The BlueClaws open the 2006 season April 6 at 7:05 p.m. in Lexington, KY and return to FirstEnergy Park for the Home Opener April 13 at 7:05 p.m. facing the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Full season and partial plan tickets for the 2006 BlueClaws season are on sale now, including the BlueClaws May 15 game at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia. The BlueClaws drew 444,607 during their Fifth Anniversary season and welcomed the team's 2-millionth fan, doing so faster than any other South Atlantic League and New Jersey professional baseball team.
