Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release
Huntsville, Al. â The Huntsville Havoc scored three straight goals, including one on the power play, on their way to defeating the Winston-Salem Polar Twins 4-2 at Von Braun Civic Center Friday night.
Dan Buccella got things going for the Havoc mid-way through the first period with his second goal of the season, a power play tally, to put Huntsville up 1-0. Mike Utzig made it 2-0 Huntsville later in the first period with his first goal on the season. It was more Havoc in the second period as Luke Phillips put Huntsville up 3-0.
Winston-Salem began their rally later in the second period when Frank Burgio, in his first game with the Polar Twins, scored to make it a 3-1 game at 14:34 of the second frame. Trevor Karasiewicz and Chester Gallant received assists on the play. Joe Pace followed with his first of the season just under four minutes later to make it a 3-2 game.
Huntsville would put the game out of reach in the third, however, when Tim Plett capitalized on a mistake by Winston-Salem for a breakaway goal and a 4-2 contest.
"Little mistakes are hurting us right now," said Polar Twins Head Coach Bryan Wells following the loss. "We are getting it together slowly but the small things are costing us games right now. Frank Burgio had a good first game for us and Joe Pace also played a strong game, netting his first of the year. We had momentum going into the third period but, unfortunately, one mistake cost us the chance for a comeback victory."
Winston-Salem heads to Columbus on Saturday for game two of this ten-game road swing beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Polar Twins may be away from the Annex for now but Polar Twins fans can keep up-to-date with all of the scores and team events by signing up for the Polar Twins newsletter.
