Huntsville Hangs On, 9-6

(Jackson, TN) July 3rd- Huntsville jumped out to an early lead and hung on for dear life to beat West Tenn 9-6, gaining a split of the four game series. The game was played in front of a sellout crowd of 6087 fans at Pringles Park.

Former Diamond Jaxx left-hander Lindsay Gulin pitched six innings to pick up the win. Gulin (7-3) allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Brendan Katin and Hernan Iribarren had two hits and three RBI's each, while Michael Brantley had four hits and a RBI to pace the Stars offense. Huntsville scored eight runs off losing pitcher Travis Chick (2-2), five of them in the third inning. Katin hit a three run homer to highlight the five run third. It was Katin's 15th home run of the season.

Chick allowed eight runs, all earned, on ten hits in four innings of work. He walked four and struckout two. In the end, Chick almost got a no decision as the Diamond Jaxx scored two runs in the ninth inning to pull to within 9-6. The Diamond Jaxx had two outs and the bases loaded with Rene Rivera representing the winning run, but Jeff Housman struckout Rivera to end the game.

Erick Monzon homered and drove in two runs while Brent Johnson drove in two runs to pace the Diamond Jaxx attack. Rivera and Alex Meneses chipped in with two hits to spur the ten hit attack.

The Diamond Jaxx head to Birmingham to open a four game series with the Birmingham Barons beginning tomorrow night at 6:05 CDT. Righty Chris Jakubauskas (0-1 4.40) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Birmingham will counter with right-hander Adam Russell (6-7 4.48).
