Huntsville City FC Hits the Road Sunday to Take on Philadelphia Union II
May 3, 2024 - MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro)
Huntsville City Football Club News Release
Huntsville, Ala. - Fresh off its first bye week of the season, Huntsville City Football Club will head north to face Philadelphia Union II at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, May 5 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa.
Here are five things to know for Sunday's match, airing live on MLS Season Pass on AppleTV.
1. The Boys in Blue are no strangers to finding the back of the net on the road. Since joining MLS NEXT Pro in 2023, HCFC has scored in 12 of its 16 road matches, including three goals total in two away games this season.
1. Through the first two months of the 2024 season, Huntsville has relied on a core of young MLS NEXT Pro players. The last time the Boys in Blue took the field on April 20, midfielder Faiz Opande became the 12th member of the team age 20 or younger to appear for HCFC this season. He joined goalkeeper Jacob Grekowicz, defenders Chris Applewhite, Fernando Ciceron, and Scott Cheevers, midfielders Isaiah Jones, Sergi Oriol, Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez, and Dominic Wilson, and forwards Maximus Ekk, Cannon Scretchen and Adem Sipić as core youngsters to appear for the club in '24.
1. When Huntsville City FC and Philadelphia Union II met last August, history was made. Former Boy in Blue Azaad Liadi scored the club's first hat trick in the 5-2 victory, earning him MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchday 23 honors. Additionally, current HCFC defender Joey Skinner iced the game with a scissor kick goal from fellow Boy in Blue Ollie Wright's cross, earning him a nomination for MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchday 23.
1. Second-year Boy in Blue Jony Bolaños will make his 30th all-time appearance for Huntsville City FC in his next match. He would become only the second HCFC player to reach the 30-match milestone, joining midfielder Ollie Wright, who reached that milestone on April 13 vs. Crown Legacy FC. Additionally, Bolaños is just 129 minutes away from being Huntsville's all-time minutes leader with 2,305.
1. Huntsville City FC will host its official Cinco de Mayo watch party at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium this Sunday, May 5. Fans can indulge in margaritas and quesadillas while watching the Boys in Blue on the big screen courtesy of the stadium's scoreboard. Gates open at 1 p.m. CT, and no tickets are required.
