Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Northwest Arkansas Naturals third baseman and Kansas City Royals infield prospect Hunter Dozier of the Peoria Javalinas was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League All-Star game. The 23-year old prospect is the lone Royals minor leaguer picked for the game on Nov. 1 at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Ariz. The game will air at 7:08 p.m. on MLB Network.
Dozier has played in 13 games for the Javalinas this fall season hitting .184 (9-for-49) while facing stout pitching on a daily basis. Five of the 6-foot-4 third baseman's hits have gone for extra bases including a home run ranking him fifth on Peoria in slugging percentage (.327). Dozier - the former 2013 8th overall draft pick - is continuing to develop defensively after playing collegiately and being drafted as a shortstop out of Stephen F. Austin. Dozier split time in 2014 with Hi-A Wilmington where he hit .295 in 66 games before earning a mid-season promotion to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
The bat of the hitting prospect has been doing just that lately: hitting. Dozier finished 2-for-4 in Saturday's game in Surprise with a pair of doubles and two runs scored while driving in a run. The Denton, Texas native is currently riding a modest three-game hitting streak.
Dozier is amongst some high-prospective names in the 2014 Arizona Fall League All-Star game. The Minnesota Twins top prospect and No. 1 overall, according to MLB.com, Byron Buxton, will participate for the East Division All-Stars along with Texas Leaguers RHP Trevor Gott and infielder Kaleb Cowart both representing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim while outfielder Hunter Renfroe (San Diego Padres) and RHP Sam Tuivailala (St. Louis Cardinals) will be teammates with Dozier suiting up for the West Division side.
Other anticipated prospects playing in the game include current Peoria Javalinas shortstop and the Cleveland Indians No. 1 prospect Francisco Lindor along with highly sought-after Cuban prospect Rusney Castillo (Boston Red Sox) will both play for the West Division All-Stars.
The Arizona Fall League will conclude on Nov. 13 with the championship game to be played on Nov. 15.
