Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY - First baseman Rhyne Hughes has been placed on the disabled list, the Montgomery Biscuits announced Sunday.
Hughes, 23, was attempting a sacrifice bunt in the eighth inning on Saturday night when a pitch from Carolina Mudcats reliever Matt Yourkin struck him in the face. The Ole Miss product walked off of the field with trainer Jimmy Southard and was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery.
In 21 games with the Biscuits, Hughes was batting .295 with two home runs and 15 runs batted in. He began the season with Vero Beach in the Florida State League, where his .329 batting average continues to lead the league.
There is no corresponding move to Rhyne Hughes' deactivation. The Biscuits currently have 22 players on their active roster, with two players on the disabled list and one on the restricted list.
