Hughes Joins Pirates Defense

WORCESTER, MA - Linebacker Naashon Hughes has signed with the Indoor Football League Champion Massachusetts Pirates for the 2022 season. Hughes played collegiately in the Big-12 conference and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League in 2018.

Hughes was a five-year player at the University of Texas. The 6'4", 245 lb. linebacker saw action in 50 games for the Longhorns, made 34 starts, had 139 tackles, 19.5 tackles for a loss and 11.5 sacks. He also defended six passes, forced two fumbles and blocked a kick.

Hughes made his mark in Austin as a Sophomore in 2015 as he started all 12 games and led Texas with nine tackles for a loss. He was also fourth on the team with 57 tackles and four quarterback pressures.

In 2017 Hughes, who calls Harker Heights, TX home, was named team captain. That season he played in all 13 games, started eight, and notched 30 tackles. He also had 3.5 tackles for a loss along with two sacks, two passes broken up and one quarterback hurry.

In 2018 Hughes, who was born in Bad Nauheim, Germany, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent.
