This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals lost to Hudson Valley (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) 11-3, dropping them to 2-1 on the season. The Renegades improved to 1-2, as the teams completed their three game series. Justin Brown (0-1) picked up the loss for the Cardinals, with Timothy King (1-0) taking home the victory.
The Cards were hurt by making a season high 5 errors that contributed to 5 unearned runs. The club fell behind 6-0 after a 5 run Renegade 2nd inning and was then held in check by Hudson Valley pitcher Timothy King. King threw 6 innings, allowing one run on 2 hits while striking out 3.
Jarrett Hoffpauir went 2-for-4 with double, RBI and a run scored to lead the Cardinals offense; it was his 2nd consecutive multi-hit game. Kyle Boyer drove a home run over the right field fence in the 4th inning to score the first Cardinals run.
The Cardinals play a two-game series at Skylands Park with the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles) on Monday and Tuesday. Both games begin at 7:15 pm. On Monday, the first 1000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of Newton Veterinary Hospital and Kids Eat Freesponsored by KFC and the New Jersey Herald.
