Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders took the first game of their two game series with the Danville Dans at Danville Stadium in Danville, IL by the score of 7-1 tonight. Both starting pitchers dominated the first few innings, with the game's first run not coming until the fourth inning. That run came courtesy of Sliders' 1B Reagan Fowler who led off the inning with a solo home run to left, his second of the year. In the fifth, the Sliders would double their lead to 2-0, after RF Mike Fitzgerald's two out single scored SS Matt Highland. The Dans picked up their first run in the bottom of the fifth, but Sliders' starter Wade Rothermich would not allow any more, as he gave up just that one run in seven innings of work. The Sliders' two run lead would be restored in the top of the sixth inning, when LF Chase Hainline picked up an RBI single, one of three hits for him on the night. In the seventh, Springfield added another run when 3B David Kerian hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year, to make it 4-1. Highland added an RBI single in the eighth to make it 5-1, and the final runs came on a two run home run by Fitzgerald, his twelfth, in the ninth. Rothermich, who has now won both of his starts, has now given up just two runs in 13.2 innings as a starter. His final line tonight was seven innings, one run, four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. The Sliders and the Dans are back at it again tomorrow as they complete their two game series. First pitch of tomorrow's game is set for 6:30, with the game scheduled to be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.
