
How Sweep It Is: Black Bears Edge out Rebels

Maryland Black Bears News Release
ODENTON, MD - The Maryland Black Bears faced off against the Jamestown Rebels for the final game of the weekend series. After a physical three periods, the Black Bears completed the sweep of the Jamestown Rebels with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night.
The Black Bears struck first with a shorthanded goal from defenseman, Hampus Rydqvist. Rydqvist blocked a Jamestown shot which led to a breakaway and made a great move to score five-hole on Jamestown goalie, Jon Howe for a 1-0 lead. The Rebels responded with an equalizer later in the second period with a powerplay goal. Forward Nick Siffringer received a pass in front of the net and beat Maryland goalie Cooper Black for a 1-1 tie.
The Black Bears retook the lead 22 seconds into the third period after forward Aaron Swanson tipped a pass into the goal for a 2-1 lead. Tempers boiled over after the final whistle and additional penalties followed.
Maryland forward Brayden Stannard earned third-star honors, defenseman Hampus Rydqvist received second-star, and Aaron Swanson took home the first star.
The Black Bears seek to continue its home success as they host the Johnstown Tomahawks for Guns and Hoses Weekend. The games will be played at Piney Orchard Ice Arena Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th. The puck will be dropped at 7:00 PM ET each night.
